Minnesota dog was lost in wilderness for 29 days

A domesticated pooch channeled his inner wolf, surviving 29 days in the wilderness.

Luigi, a Minnesota Labrador retriever mix, went missing for several weeks and was recently returned to his owners missing toenails and appearing 25 pounds thinner, according to Minneapolis Star Tribune.

The family dog lost sight of his owners, Zane Brunette and Max McKernan, in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness on Jun. 25.

For six hours the owners desperately searched the wilderness area and camped out for three days in the spot Luigi went missing, Brunette told the Tribune.

Luckily 30 miles away, Marit Warren saw the distressed pup near her family cabin on July 24. and reported it to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

The disheartening search did not go to waste when the dispatch officer was able to identify Luigi from the countless flyers and social media posts about his absence.

Brunette was reunited with his courageous pup, who is doing well and recovering from the traumatizing experience.

“We were lucky he found Marit because she was the right person for him,” the owner told the Tribune of the dog’s rescuer. “I’m eternally grateful.”

Although there is little known about what Luigi came up against in the wilderness, he pushed through and let his journey be the survival of the fittest.
