The Mets are adding some needed juice to the lineup.
They are calling up touted prospect Mark Vientos from Triple-A Syracuse, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported Saturday. The 22-year-old is ranked as the team’s No. 7 prospect, according to MLB.com
Able to play both first and third base, Vientos slashed .280/.358/.519 with a .877 OPS, 24 home runs and 72 RBIs in 101 games with Syracuse. He played 59 games at third and 27 at at first, while being used as a designated hitter in the other 15 games.
The Mets’ lineup has struggled amid the team’s slide out of first place in the NL East. The team has yet to announce the corresponding more to make room for Vientos on the roster, but Starling Marte’s hand injury had put him in danger of landing on the IL
Vientos was the Mets’ second-round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft.
