Liverpool set to make January move for €40m- rated Portuguese star midfielder
Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the circumstances surrounding Wolves player Ruben Neves as they look to bolster their midfield lineup during the winter transfer window.
The Merseyside giants have had a slow start to the new season despite their big victory over Bournemouth, failing to win all three of their opening Premier League games. This is their slowest campaign start in ten years. And injuries have had a major impact on that.
With Only three games into the new season, Liverpool already have four first-team midfielders out with injuries: Thiago, Curtis Jones, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita. This leaves veteran Milner to fill in the middle of the park.
The Reds have been keeping tabs and compiling scout reports on a few footballers in the transfer market that meet their strict criteria, with Jurgen Klopp wanting to add a new face to his squad before the September 1 deadline.
One of the few Iptions that the Reds scouting team has recommended is Neves, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past.
Ruben was expected to embark on a fresh challenge away from Wolves this summer. Neves has played 216 games for Wolves.
The 25-year-old has registered 24 goals and 12 assists. However, with two years left on his contract, now would be the right time to cash in a sizable fee if his long-term future is not at Wolves.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will seize the opportunity to bring Neves to Anfield in the January transfer window.
