Jacob deGrom’s return to the Citi Field was remarkable — and nearly perfect.
The Mets ace retired the first 17 batters he faced — striking out 12 — over the first 5 2/3 innings before allowing a walk to break up the perfect game and then a home run against the Braves on Sunday.
Atlanta’s longball cut the Mets’ lead to 5-2 and ended deGrom’s time on the mound after 76 pitches. It was his second start since returning from the injured list and his first start at Citi Field since July 7, 2021.
After dominating Braves hitters, deGrom eventually walked Ehire Adrianza with two outs in the six and then let up a two-run homer to Dansby Swanson. Joely Rodriguez came on in relief of deGrom, who recorded 25 swings and misses.
